Design Overview
The 1000 RIB is a heavy duty high speed commercial 10.0m rigid inflatable boat with composite hull and aluminium topside fabrications. The layout is specifically designed for use as an open rescue boat and the following duties:
- Immersed casualty recovery a. treatment operations, for singular and multiple Pers.
- Towing of stricken vessels to safe haven.
- Evacuation operations for mass casualties.
- Search operations in good and poor light conditions.
- Operating in shallows.
- Holding station at a control position in 8 knots of flow.
- Stemming and se of friction-locks.
- Rough weather handling.
- Stable working platform (3600 use).
- Emergency anchoring procedures.
- Working with helicopters including winching operations.
- Extended reach operations including rescue swimmer and sled insertions.
Propulsion is by twin inboard diesel engines driving twin water jets providing excellent performance, shallow draft and unparalleled manoeuvrability. Water
jets are paramount for rescue craft when casualties may be in the water as there are no moving parts on a water jet unlike a traditional propeller. The craft layout features a central helm position for four (4) crew on shock mitigating helm seats. All topside fabrications are bolted so as to allow easy removal for servicing and maintenance purposes and utilise sealing gaskets. All fasteners throughout the whole craft are of A4 high grade stainless steel and feature nylon isolation washers between dissimilar metals to avoid galvanic corrosion.
Design Approval MST craft are well proven with craft in commercial service world-wide. The craft is built in accordance with Lloyds Special Service Craft rules and satisfies the Marine & Coastguard Agency Open Rescue Boat Code.
